Purchasing a mini excavator is a significant investment — and once you’ve made the decision, the next question that naturally follows is: “When will my machine actually arrive?” This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive from our European customers, and for good reason — project schedules, workforce planning, and equipment deployment all hinge on it.
This article breaks down the full shipping timeline from our factory in China to your yard in Europe — clearly, honestly, and without the guesswork.

The answer depends on the shipping method you choose. Here is a realistic breakdown:
- Sea Freight (FCL — Full Container Load): 25–40 Days
The most common and cost-effective choice for full-size mini excavators. Shipping from major Chinese ports (Shanghai, Ningbo, Tianjin) to European hubs such as Rotterdam, Hamburg, or Piraeus typically takes 25 to 40 calendar days at sea, not counting pre-shipment preparation or inland customs clearance at your end.
- Sea Freight (LCL — Less than Container Load): 35–50 Days
If you are ordering a single unit or a small quantity, LCL (shared container) may be used. Additional consolidation and deconsolidation time at both ends typically adds 7–10 extra days compared to FCL.
- China–Europe Rail Freight: 18–25 Days
The China–Europe Railway Express (also known as the “New Silk Road” freight train service) has become an increasingly popular option. Connecting Chinese industrial hubs to European cities like Duisburg, Warsaw, and Lyon in approximately 18 to 25 days, it offers a reliable middle ground between cost and speed — though availability and routing vary by origin city.
- Air Freight: 5–10 Days (Spare Parts Only)
Air freight is not practical for full machines due to volume and weight. However, for urgent spare parts, components, or accessories, air shipping from China to major European airports takes just 5 to 10 days, minimising downtime when a machine needs a quick fix on-site.
No — and this is one of the most important distinctions to understand. The transit times quoted above cover shipping only. The total time from placing your order to receiving your machine at your site includes several additional stages:
- Order Confirmation & Payment Processing: 2–5 business days
- Production Lead Time: 15–30 days (varies by model, configuration, and current order volume). In-stock machines may be ready within 3–7 days.
- Export Documentation & Port Booking: 3–7 business days
- Ocean / Rail Transit: 18–40 days (by shipping method)
- Customs Clearance in Europe: 3–10 days (subject to local port congestion and documentation completeness)
- Inland Delivery to Your Site: 1–5 days (varies by destination country and logistics partner)
In total, customers should plan for a door-to-door delivery window of approximately 45 to 80 days from order placement, depending on production status and logistics conditions.
International shipping is subject to real-world variables that can occasionally extend timelines. The most common factors include:
- Port Congestion: Major ports such as Rotterdam and Hamburg can experience congestion, particularly during peak trade seasons (Q4 and pre-holiday periods). This may add 3–7 days.
- Customs Inspection: Heavy machinery often undergoes more thorough inspection at customs. Incomplete or incorrect documentation is the leading cause of delays here — a risk that can be largely eliminated by working with an experienced freight forwarder.
- Golden Week & Chinese National Holidays:Factories and logistics providers in China typically pause during Chinese New Year (January/February) and National Golden Week (October). Orders placed just before these periods may face production delays of 1–2 weeks.
- Route Disruptions: Global events — such as the Suez Canal disruptions or Panama Canal congestion — can force re-routing, adding 1–3 weeks to sea freight schedules. Our logistics team monitors routes in real time and proactively advises customers when alternative routing is needed.
- CE Certification & Compliance Review:All Yuchai mini excavators destined for Europe are CE-certified and comply with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. If you require additional country-specific homologation, allow extra time for this step.
Your machine is treated with the same care we would expect for our own equipment. Yuchai mini excavators are shipped in one of two ways, depending on their dimensions:
- Standard 20’ or 40’ Container (most common): The machine is secured with heavy-duty steel brackets welded to the container floor, protecting against movement during transit. Arm and boom are folded into their most compact configuration.
- Open-Top Container or Flat Rack: Used for larger configurations or units with attachments that cannot be fully retracted. The machine is shrink-wrapped and tarped against moisture and sea spray.
All shipped units undergo a pre-departure inspection, and a full set of export documents — including the packing list, commercial invoice, bill of lading, and CE declaration of conformity — are prepared and shared with you before the vessel departs.
Yes. Once your machine is on board, you will receive:
- The Bill of Lading (B/L) number, which allows you to track the container on any major shipping line’s online portal
- Proactive status updates from our export team at key milestones: departure, mid-voyage ETA update, and arrival at destination port
- A dedicated point of contact throughout the entire process, so you’re never left chasing information on your own
A smooth arrival depends on both sides being prepared. Here is what we recommend for our European customers:
- Appoint a Licensed Customs Broker: Particularly if this is your first time importing construction machinery from outside the EU. They will handle the import duty (typically 1.7% for mini excavators under HS code 8429.52 in the EU), VAT, and customs entry.
- Arrange Port Pick-Up or Inland Delivery in Advance:Container storage fees (demurrage) accumulate quickly at European ports — typically from Day 3 or Day 5 after vessel arrival. Pre-booking a flat-bed truck or low-loader prevents unnecessary costs.
- Prepare Unloading Equipment: Yuchai mini excavators are typically delivered in a “ride-off” condition and can be driven off the container ramp directly. Ensure the receiving site has sufficient ground clearance and a competent operator present at unloading.

We understand that a machine arriving two weeks late can mean a stalled project and real financial impact for your business. That is why our export team prioritises transparency at every step — from the moment your order is confirmed to the moment your operator climbs into the cab.
If you have a firm project start date in mind, share it with us — we will work backwards together to identify the right order window and shipping method that gets your Yuchai mini excavator to your site on time, every time.
